Change in test case authoring

When I start my life as a software tester, I remember when we write the expected result at the time of authoring test cases. We write it like "ABC page should be displayed" Or "XYZ should be happen". But now days when we have to write the same, we write it as  "ABC page is displayed" Or "XYZ  happen". Do you know why this 'Should be', 'will be' etc are not used these days? Because when we execute any test we cant say that it will really happen. Another thing is expected is outcome we expect not a forceful act which should happen in each and every case.

Earlier we sent our test cases for review to test lead and/or developer/BA. Now days one more reviewer called validation manager plays its role to validate the test case sheet, why? Again as per time industry the process is matured and more checks are implemented. Validation manager don't know anything about the functionality an still validating the sheet, how? Actually validation manager playing an important role to validate the document with all required standard so that all sheet looks same. Otherwise every tester writing skills are different. More validation manager task is to confirm that all requirement are covered in HLD/LLD and that are mapped in test sheet.

Hope it will help you to mature your company testing process if not implemented yet. Otherwise information update is always a good thing. Update me too if I have missed anything.

Defects and its effects on people, environment and company

User is the one who suffer first when there is any defect in product he is using.  But is it only user who suffers?

Let we take an example. There is some defect in invertor battery which make it fume out more smokes as expected.  Now definitely its user who will suffer first with those fumes and it will definitely create health problems as well. But if we think more it is also affecting the environment as well. We can see passively it is affecting other peoples also.

Because of lack of quality it will sooner or later affect the company sale also.  If defect is not fixed it make shut down the company as well. So, dont take any defect just a defect.  But always think hiw it can be dangerous for user or environment or company, then only decide whether we can neglect this defect otherwise fix it.

STLC - Software Testing Life Cycle

When we say testing life cycle, we mean are talking about different phases /process/tasks we do to test a software. STLC depend on organization maturity and process followed in project. It also depends on type and nature of software application under test.
Most general we will define it like this:

1) Requirements
2) Testing Planning
3) Test Designing
4) Test Execution
5) Defect Reporting
6) Retesting and Regressing Testing
7) Reports

Now, We can elaborate it more as per process followed in organization. Please correct me if I am wrong and you can ask me any question regarding any step mentioned above.

Enjoy :)

Write test cases for effective date

Hi Friends,

I am back with one more nice interview question in testing:

Scenario: We have to write test cases for effective date. There is a date say month last date when some amount will debited from user account.
Condition: 1) If month last date is Holiday, then amount will be debited next day.
2) If month last day is weekend, then amount will be debited one day before last date.

Now, be ready and comment with your possible test scenarios.

I want to confirm you that there is a defect which you will catch for sure. Let me show your intelligence and catch the defect. I will comment after sometime with defect to uncover.

Tell me how many maximum test cases you can write on this requirement.

Enjoy your home work :)
